The purpose of this study is to find out the help and the obstacles that university students who felt mental health issues visit psychiatry and continue treatment. Three people who visit psychiatry during study in universities majoring in mental health welfare and diagnosed as one of the mental and behavioral disorders of ICD-10 were interviewed and results of the interviews were analyzed by TEA (Trajectory Equifinality Approach). We found out that to visit psychiatry “the knowledge of mental disorders has led to make their own decision”, “their family’s understanding about going to psychiatry may become a booster”, and “family member or teacher may be needed to accompany them” and to continue treatment “attending physician who listen to and respect them is inevitable.” All three interviewees have felt need to visit psychiatry themselves with some support mentioned above and all of them are able to continue to receive medical treatment in a positive attitude. One of the reasons they could visit psychiatry with their own decision is that they had correct knowledge about mental illness. Therefor we may need to think about how to give the correct knowledge about mental illness and mental health to college students who are considered to be in prevalent age of mental illness. As a support for students, it is important for universities to provide support system in order to recognize signs of mental health issues of students such as absence of classes as early as possible listening to their situation well, and to contact family members or connect medical institution as needed. Also, universities need to enhance regional coordination system with the mental health and welfare institutions to support students being able to continue education in universities or finding their new future receiving psychiatric treatment.
