Abstract

Volunteers support workers with experience in raising children are providing effective support in raising children in their communities. The purpose of this study is to reveal what impact supporters' personal experience in raising children has on the field of support in raising children. We considered comments from supporters working with parents and children and explored the relationship between experience as supported people and the feelings and practice of the volunteers. The support workers are vividly aware of their experience their own negative experience in raising children turned into positive one by boing supported and they are trying to reproduce this in the field of support. We observed that in cases where they were able to make effective use of their negative experience to support raising children, many of them felt satisfaction and pleasure, in contrast, to cases where negative experience was reproduced by the people they supported or there was a gap between what the supporters wanted supported people to be and the reality, they felt it conflicted with.
