Abstract:An investigation was performed in Japanese language classes of universities in China, which focuses on the timing of correction by teachers and how the students react to the timing of correction. 89.3% students said that, they should be corrected after a whole sentence is finished. But, investigation results showed that out of 138 corrections, students were being corrected in the middle of a sentence in 42.9% cases. Most of the teachers also prefer correction after a whole sentence. In one word, teachers' attitude agrees well with that of students', but the error correction of teachers don't agree with the attitude of both students and teachers themselves. Investigation results also indicated that students are often interrupted in the middle of a sentence when elicitation is used, while in cases of some other methods such as recast, metalinguistic feedback, and scorn, students are less interrupted.
