Description

A new nonglutinous rice cultivar 'Otentosodachi' was developed at Miyazaki Agricultural Experiment Station in 2009. The characteristics are as follows. It is nonglutinous cultivar derived from a combination Nankai 149/Hokuriku190. The heading date is 3days faster and date of maturity is 5days faster than those of 'Hinohikari' which is one of the main variety of western part of Japan. The plant culm length is about 12cm shorter than that of 'Hinohiakrit and panecle length is as long as that of 'Hinohikari'. The panicle number are slightly fewer than those of 'Hinohikari'. The plant type is partial panicle weight type. The grain appearance is superior to that of 'Hinohikari' and its grain quality is classified to be of first grade, even if it matures under a high tempreture conditions. The resistance to lodging is strong. It is presumed that 'Otentosodachi' possesses the rice blast resistance gene Pia and Pii. The resistance to leaf blast is medium and to panicle blast is silghtly weak, and to the bacterial leaf blight is weak. The resistance to striped virus is susceptible. The resistance to pre-harvest sprouting is medium. The brown rice yield is slightly higher than that of 'Hinohikari'. The 1000-grain weight is a little smaller than that of 'Hinohikari'. The eating quallity is simillar to that of 'Hinohikari'.
