Abstract

We present the response of SQUID inductance to magnetic nanoparticle films. We have been studying the use of magnetic materials including magnetic nanoparticles for fabricating high performance Single-Flux-Quantum (SFQ) circuits. In this work, we measured the inductance of Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) with and without the Fe_3O_4 magnetic nanoparticle films formed by evaporating the solvent of magnetic nanoparticle solutions. Results showed that 13% and 15% increases in SQUID inductance were obtained for two kinds of SQUIDs with the films composed by 5nm nanoparticles. We also found that the increase in SQUID inductance was larger for a SQUID with the film of 5nm nanoparticles than for a SQUID with the film of 50nm in investigation of dependence of the inductance increase on nanoparticle size.
