According to Ceravolo, 1 -4 offense had already been in use in 1937. In today's basketball game, t his offense is one of the most popular offenses. 1-4 offense is defined by players' alignment and classified as follows; a)1-4 High, b) 1-4 Tight, and c)1-4 Flat. When the defense plays aggressive man to man defense, one of the most effective ways to combat this defensive pressure is to use 1-4 set. Because all offensive players are one pass away from the point guard, both wing players and post players can execute backdoor play if overplay is continued. If defense relinquishes some of their pressure, the offense can enter into its regular patterns. Skilled point guard is necessary to run 1-4 offenses. This might be a disadvantage of this offense. For backdoor option, a t all point guard is desirable.
