マイケル・E・ポーターの競争戦略論によれば, 戦略を選択しない中途半端な企業は窮地に立つことになる。このスタック・イン・ザ・ミドルの主張には, 理論的にも経験的にも多くの批判が存在し, その是非をめぐっていまだ論争的な状態にある。そこで, 本稿では, ポーターの競争戦略論が個別企業単独の戦略論である点に着目し, オリバー・E・ウィリアムソンによって展開された取引コスト理論を組み入れることを試みた。これにより, ポーターの競争戦略論の限界が克服され, 「スタック・イン・ザ・ミドル」仮説をめぐる従来の多くの批判をかわすことができることがわかった。さらには, ポーターの競争戦略論を企業間関係をも考慮した競争戦略論へと洗練することができることもわかった。これらのことを説明することが, 本稿の目的である。 On competitive strategy, Michael E. Porter argues that a firm has no competitive advantage unless it makes a choice among each strategy. The "stuck in the middle" hypothesis has been criticized theoretically and empirically. Its validity has never been concluded. In this paper, the competitive strategy is considered focused on a single firm and it is attempted to incorporate transaction cost economics by Oliver E. Williamson into the competitive strategy. This resulting competitive strategy can be more tenable. Moreover, it can be sophisticated as it takes relationship among firms into consideration. The aim here is to explain the above.
