- Effects of B-nine on Growth and Yield of Rice Plant

The present series of experiments was conducted with an intention to investigate the effects of B-nine on the rice plant in a warm region. As the growth depends on the time of application, the way of treatment and the concentration of solution of B-nine, the most effective way to promote the yield was examined by various combinations of these factors, and the following results were obtained. 1) The foliar application of B-nine at transplanting inhibited the leaf-emergence rate and accelerated the growth of tillers in the nursery bed and also that of the secondary and tertiary tillers; thus, this contributed to the early acquisition of productive tillers. 2) The foliar application of B-nine at transplanting increased the yields at every concentration of 3000, 5000 and 7000 ppm, and especially the most yield was gained at 5000 ppm. On the other hand, the foliar application of the high concentration at the stage before the formation of young panicles got the yield decreased remarkably. In conclusion, it is safe to say that the simplest and most effective way of the treatment to gain the best growth and yield is to soak the whole plant of seedlings in the 5000 ppm solution of B-nine at the time just before transplanting.
