Ohgimachi Machiko is a concubine of Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu(1658〜1714, 柳沢吉保), he is an able official the fifth Tokugawa shogun Tsunayoshi(1646〜1709, 徳川綱吉). Machiko wrote a book named "Matsukage-Nikki"(松陰日記), the meaning of a word "The diary in the shade of a pine tree". In this book she wrote down Yoshiyasu's luxury, often cited "The tale of Genji". Machiko's father is Ohgimachi Kinmichi(1653〜1733, 正親町公通), her mother is Emon-no-suke(?〜1703, 右衛門佐), she comes of a noble Minase(水無瀬)family. Both Ohgimachi and Minase family's are descendants of Sanjyounishi Sanetaka(1455〜1537, 三条西実隆), who is the most famous tanka poet and an eminent scholar in "The tale of Genji". By the way, when Emon-no-suke was promoted to the general manager of the ladies' chambers in an Edo-castle, that is around 1693, she called Machiko to Edo, present Tokyo, and in a little while, Machiko entered Yanagisawa family. In 1694, Machiko gave birth to a baby boy. Yoshiyasu christened this baby Tsunetaka(1694〜1725, 経隆). Two years after, Machiko had a baby boy again. This baby was called Tokichika(1696〜1750, 時睦). Although these two sons are illegitimate children, Yoshiyasu treated them with affection. In 1709, when Yoshiyasu retired from his profession, he transferred his almost of his feudal estate "kai", present Yamanashi prefecture, his heir Yoshisato(1687〜1745, 吉里), and a part of estate were given to Tsunetaka and Tokichika. But afterward, when Yoshisato transferred Yamato-koriyama(大和郡山)present Nara prefecture, Machiko's two sons transferred Echigo(越後), present Niigata prefecture, in the same time. In this paper I would like to talk about the reason and the background why two sons transfered from Kai to Echigo.
