抄録

Levinas’s notion of il y a is generally recognized as central to his early work. Il y a that appears in De l’existence à l’existant produces the subject as substantive. Although the subject arising from il y a characterizes as “one,” such “one” doesn’t yet qualify as “one for the other.” However, that appearance of the subject contains some of the key concepts that seem necessary to understand the subject as “substitution,” such as hypostasis, the instant as present, position. In this paper, I will study the use of il y a and the subject in De l’existence à l’existant, thereby clarifying what concept of the subject did Levinas initiate.
