説明

This paper describes the nationalistic historiography of modern Yunnan from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. This period is regarded as an important turning point for China to transfer from Tianxia (“all under haven”), the traditional order into a nation-state. However, at the time, Yunnan seemed to lack the inevitability of entering the newborn nationstate of China due to its distinctive history and the existence of non-Han peoples. This paper analyzes the Yunnan journal, a Chinese periodical published in Tokyo, Japan in the 1900s and its extra issue Diancui, and argues that the “history” of Yunnan, which followed the conception of building a homogeneous China (a Han China), has been reconstructed. As a result, the non-Han peoples, especially one of their leaders participated in the Chinese Revolution (1911- 1912) with the Han identity. Through this paper, we can confirm that comparing with nationalism theories of primordialism, theories of modernism are more convincing.
