The impact of "Yusenkutsu" on romantic exchange of poems between Ishikawa Iratsume and Otomo Tanushi --Between their views of "Miyabi"--

Abstract

There are contained three romantic exchange of poems between Ishikawa Iratsume and Otomo Tanushi in "Manyoshu." These poems are about Miyabio which means elegant man. Iratsume and Tanushi talked about their views of Miyabio in these poems. This paper discusses what their views of Miyabi is, and what the difference in their views of Miyabi is. In these poems, Iratsume refered to "Monzen" and "Yusenkutsu" which are Chinese classics. The reason why she came to get fire from Tanushi and take the pot In Sachu was that she wanted him to understand her feelings for him. The same situations and words are discovered in "Monzen" and "Yusenkutsu." From these various evidences, she used the context of Chinese classics "Yusenkutsu.". And Tanushi also used the context of Chinese classics "Monzen" for his reply. They used the context of different classics in their poems. There are the different view of Miyabi which had the different authorities. This study shows that these romantic exchange of poems express two views of Miyabi in Japan of those days.
