抄録

The web application software “iPortfolioMaker” was developed for supporting professors who collect, accumulate, and analyze the various types of data with respect to general education, in Research and Development Center for Higher Education, Nagasaki University. The authors had thirteen classes in the course “Introduction to computer science” in 2008. This study has surveyed students' opinions about computer operation skills and their current levels, and discusses the familiarity of the skills for Microsoft Word. Questionnaires and exam results are carefully analyzed. Based on the results of the study, this paper also discusses creating and designing the effective course content and program development for “Introduction to computer science”. Through discussion, it is shown that the students can obtain a sufficient mastery of the required operation skills, and that the skills are unaffected by their previous experience and impressions for computer operations.
