「子育てサークル」（以下「サークル」）は，母親たちが子どもを連れて集まり，話し合ったり，子どもと遊んだり行事に参加したりする活動である．恵庭市にはこのようなサークルが7 か所あり，継続的に活動している．本研究では，サークル会員の参加についての態度や考えについてアンケート調査を行ない，市の子育て支援の一つである「プレイセンター」の研究結果と比較した． 　その結果次のことが分かった．1）サークル会員の68％が，自分のサークルに参加するだけで，何らかの役目を引き受けていなかった．他方，プレイセンター会員の66％は，参加するだけではなく，何らかの役目を引き受けていた． 2）サークル会員は，子育てを助けてもらいたいとき，夫やその他の家族に助けを求められない場合に頼れる人として，サークルの仲間を34％，近所の人を17％が選んだのに対して，プレイセンター会員では，プレイセンターの仲間を選んだのがわずか9％，近所の人は7％だった．これはサークルが市の 全域に及ぶ活動ではなく，近隣地域密着型の活動であることによると考えられる．

Child-Rearing Circle (henceforth, Circle) is a program in which child-rearing mothers gather along with their young children and spend time chatting, playing with the children, and taking part in organized events. In Eniwa City, there are seven such Circles which meet on a regular basis. The attitudes and ideas of members regarding their participation in their Circles were investigated by means of a questionnaire, and the responses were compared with those of Playcenter (another type of childcare supports in Eniwa) members who had been surveyed previously. The following results were obtained: (1) 68% of the members of the Circles said that they just took part in their Circle activities and didn't have any specific role to play in their Circle group, while 66% of the Playcenter members said they not only participated in but also assumed a specific role in the Playcenter. (2)34% of the Circle members said they did or would count on their friends in the Circle if or when they needed help with childrearing if they were unable to receive such help from their spouses or other family members , while 17% said they would count on their neighbors. On the other hand, only 9% of the Playcenter members said they did or would turn to Playcenter friends for help, while 7% of them would count on their neighbors. This difference may be attributed to the fact that the Circles are more local community-based rather than city-wide programs.
