This paper is a research about apologies by setting up a simulation scene, in which someintimate friends apologize in person. When native Korean speakers apologize to other native Korean speakers or to native Japanese speakers, there are some differences between them in the aspects of which strategy is adopted, what kind of feelings they have, and what phrase isused to express their meaning and to start this situation.The aim of this paper is to demonstrate and analyze this human behavior by using the role play data. As a result, 12 apologizing strategies were found to be used at the setting of an apology scene. When the two persons wereboth native Korean speakers, they talked and apologized very freely, within the rules of Korean language. When partners turned out to be native Japanese speakers, however, they had to manage their own Japanese language rules and communicate sensitively while they were speaking and expressing what they thought. In other words, the significant difference for native Korean speakers who tried to make an apology is the effect of linguistic awareness among different situations.
