White rats, in which rickets had been developed experimentally, were grouped into the following four categories: group 1, those which received no treatment at all and were used as the control; group 2, those to which Parotin was administered; group 3, those to which vitamin D was administered; and group 4, those to which a combination of vitamin D and parotin was administered. The tibias of the rats belonging to these four categories were subjected to histological investigations. 1) In group 1, the development of bone matter along the periphery of bone trabeculae occurring in secondary spongy substance as well as the periphery of the processes of cartilage has been prevented, and plenty of residue of the degenerated cartilaginous tissue was found inside the trabeculae. This will show that, although the growth of cartilage has been more or, less normal, there has been defective ossification. 2) The administration of parotin had no effect in improving this condition. 3) The administration of vitamin continued for a week has resulted in slight improvement in the condition. 4) The administration of a combination of vitamin D and parotin continued for a week has resulted in early normalization of the formation of bony plates in the trabeculae, showing that the treatment has been effective. Periosteal ossification has progressed smoothly. The results of the experiments as described above will show that, while there has been no improvement observed in group 1 and 2, a slight improvement has taken place in group 3 and a marked improvement has occurred in group 4.
