タバコ副流煙が植物の成長に及ぼす影響をカイワレ大根を用いた実験で示し,その結果が喫煙防止教育の一教材となり得るかを検討した。成長過程を4段階(種子群,発芽群,伸長群,照射群)に区分けし,副流煙の暴露を時期的にずらすことで成長過程での副流煙の影響力を調べた。対照群および各群との比較を試みたところ,副流煙の暴露時間が長いほど,また暴露時期は伸長期および照射期に影響が大きいことが示された。この実験結果を喫煙防止教育の教材としてなり得るかを検討したところ,視覚的に教育効果を高める点では優れているが,実際,実験を行うにはタバコを取り扱うことや副流煙暴露などの点で困難ではないかとの結論を得た。しかし,受動喫煙による副流煙が成長期の子どもたちに及ぼす悪影響を,この実験結果の映像を通し提供できるのであれば,大変教育的効果の高い教材になるものと思われる。

An experiment was carried out using white radish sprouts in order to examine whether or not the influence of side stream smoke on the plant growth can be appropriate teaching materials for the education of smoking prevention. The growth process of the white radish sprouts was divided into four stages -namely- seed, germination, growth and irradiation and in each stage, various periods of exposure of side stream smoke were applied to see its influence. The findings were as follows. The longer the period of exposure, the more the plant was effected and regarding growth process, the growth and irradiation stages were influenced more than the others. It was finally concluded that while this experiment would improve the visual aspect of education, it would be rather difficult to actually conduct the experiment because of the handling of cigarettes and exposure to smoking. To provide the students with the image of the experiment which shows the harmful influence of side stream smoke through passive smoking on the children under the growth period will be extremely effective materials for the education of smoking prevention.
