This paper, focusing on capitalist economic development, discusses the effect of class conflict on economic growth based on introducing unemployment insurance to a hybrid economic growth model suggested by Mehrling (1986). Unlike Mehrling (1986), this paper’s results could be divided into two situations according to whether the value of labor insurance is more significant than that of survival boundary or not. The findings of the study have led to three main conclusions as follows. Firstly, the results indicate that collaboration between the two classes is more beneficial to the whole society for which the total production produced under collaboration is higher than that under conflict conditions. Secondly, regarding the optimal choice for the two classes, the results suggest that it is advantageous for workers to choose to be organized, whereas the capitalist’s choice depends on the value of the unemployment insurance. Thirdly, the results document that the growing labor force increases the capitalist’s profit but reduces the worker’s profit.
