In this paper, the application of Sino-Japanese morpheme Dou on newspapers is classifi ed into 3 types: the usage of Noun-Modifying, the usage of Symbolizing and the usage of Anaphora Reference.Because the usage of Noun-Modifying is unrelated to Anaphora, it is different from another two usages. In the usage of Symbolizing and the usage of Anaphora Reference, there are differences on the question whether the indicating-guarantee parts of antecedent and anaphor are identical or not. In the usage of Anaphora Reference, the indicating-guarantee parts of antecedent and anaphor are identical. In the usage of symbolizing, however, those two parts are different. In the usage of symbolizing, “Dou” is applied when the information appearing in the former text is used again. Moreover, inspired by Nakagawa (2005), the usage of Anaphora Reference is classifi ed into such four types as the basic usage, the expansion of linguistic unit, the partial usage of antecedent and the expansion of linguistic unit after the partial usage of antecedent. This paper also researches profoundly on the relationship between “Dou” and antecedent as well as the linguistic unit of anaphor including “Dou”.As a conclusion, whether antecedent has the indicating-guarantee part or not is interrelated to the relationship between “Dou” and antecedent. If antecedent has the indicating-guarantee part, “Dou” points to the relevant part of anaphor. On the other hand, if antecedent does not have the indicating-guarantee part, “Dou with the addition of that part” points to the whole antecedent. Besides, the linguistic units of the indicating-guarantee part and the expanding part are related to the linguistic unit of anaphor including “Dou”. According to the changing situation of linguistic units of the indicating-guarantee part and the expanding part, the linguistic unit of anaphor correspondingly becomes word or word.As discussed above, the application of the Sino-Japanese morpheme “Dou”on newspapers is clarifi ed.
