先行きが不透明な現代社会を生きてゆくには、正解というものが見いだせない諸課題に対し最適解を選択し、対応してゆかなければならない。そのためには、それがなぜ最適解になるのか､ その判断基準や根拠を相手が納得するように説明できる能力が重要になる。英語の授業でも、初等中等教育の教育方針の一つ「思考力・判断力・表現力を育成」する具体策として、ディベート発想の思考力を育成する活動が求められている。本稿では、ディベート発想の論理的な思考力はどのように育成するべきかを論考するとともに、現行中学校学習指導要領に基づき改訂された2021年度中学校3年の英語教科書を通してディベートがどのように扱われているかを調査分析する。

There is no one right answer or solution to various problems in our contemporary society with uncertain future prospects. To cope with the problems in the future society, we have to continue selecting optimal answers. It is important to be able to explain why the answers are the best or better with the grounds and the criteria of your decisions to other people. This is why promoting “to develop the ability of thinking, judgment, and expressiveness” is required in primary and secondary school education. In English classes, it is requested to foster so-called debate ways of thinking; thinking logically. This paper discusses how debate ways of thinking, namely logical thinking should be cultivated at junior high schools and examines how debate is treated in the junior-high-school English textbooks for the 3rd grade revised newly in 2021 in accordance with the current Course of Studies.
