Description
Limnological environment of Lakes Ono and Kono on Mt. Akagi was observed from March 1983 to March 1984, and the following data were obtained for the two lakes respectively : surface area, 0.866㎢ and 0.121㎢, maximum depth, 17.5m and 9.1m, and volume, 6,640,290㎥ and 443,819㎥. Water cycle pattern of the lakes is a temperate lake. Summer stagnation period of Lake Kono is shorter than that of Lake Ono. Water cycle influences dissolved oxygen and oxidation reduction potential. Annual water temperature pattern of Lake Kono, which has the maximum depth of 9.1m, almost coincides with that of the upper half, depth of 0-10m, of the deeper lake Ono. Water quality is the two lakes shows a similar pattern to each other, but the only difference is their vertical dimension. Freezing period is 4 months for Lake Ono and 6 months for Lake Kono. Ice thickness was 50-80cm for both. The mean transparency is 3m and 1.5m respectively. The amount of precipitation on the lakes and in the catchment areas was calculated by making use of the observed data obtained the lakeside, and evapotranspiration of the catchment areas was estimated by the Thornthwaite's method. The amount of inflow from the catchment areas to Lakes Ono and Kono was calculated at 6,347.2×10^3㎥/year and 485.0×10^3㎥/year. The mean residence time of water of Lakes Ono and Kono was estimated at 1.05 and 0.92 year respectively. The observation made it clear that the size of lake basin affects to limnological environments. Especially influential is the depth of lake on the stagnation period of lake.
