In Meiji era, they watered the rice field through Megro River. Building factories on the river valley started at an end of Meiji era, and now, all the valley are covered with factories and houses. On the upland which used to be a field, many houses have been built and now this district has become one of the residental part of Tokyo. As for the motorways, two main motorways—the second Keihin motorway and Nakahara motorway—cross each other in this district. There is a ramp of Tokyo Expressway no. 2, and also, Tokyo Expressway no. 6 runs through Osaki Hirokoji. Adding to the underground station, the connection of Ikegami line is also very valuable to this district. TOC (Tokyo Oroshiuri—the wholesale merchant—Center) no. 1 ((1970), no. 2 (1976) had built, obviously its partly due to the transportation. There is a shopping disrict around the Gotanda railway station, it is inferior to that around Shibuya railway station. Gotanda's shopping district is in the same situation as that of Megro's, but the former has been better since 1967 when the underground station was completed there. Around the Osaki railway station, we can see a considerabl factories even now, and the ralway station itself is still working as the station for the factory product.
