シンガポール華人のアイデンティティに関する研究

In Singapore, which has become one of the most developed countries in the world, I believe that the promotion of bilingual education has influenced the Chinese community not only in terms of human resource development, but also in social and family life. In particular, the current globalization of the economy and the speed of information sharing on social networking sites (SNS) with the spread of the Internet are affecting the identity of the Chinese community more than ever before. On the other hand, how has the promotion of bilingual education changed the culture, traditions, behaviors, and dialects historically held by the Chinese community in Singapore? This study conducted a survey of adolescent Chinese Singaporeans on their language use and identity to consider how their identity has been transformed by the promotion of English-centered language policy. As a result, it became clear that the identity of Chinese Singaporeans as adolescents is becoming more established as “Singaporean" rather than as Chinese. However, their ethnic Chinese identities are not all disappearing, as they are interested in retaining their Chinese dialects and promoting the Speak Mandarin campaign, indicating that they are ambivalent about their identities. It also became clear that Singlish, which is not only used by Singaporean Chinese, but is also used daily in Singaporean society, could be one of the identities of Singaporean Chinese. In the future, it is necessary to conduct case studies on the changes in Singaporean Chinese identity from generation to generation, Singapore's language education policy, and the inheritance of Chinese traditions, events, religions, and values in the family to consider Singaporean Chinese identity in more depth.

世界有数の先進国となったシンガポールにおいて、バイリンガル教育の推進は、人材育成の面だけではなく、社会生活や家庭生活においても、華人社会に影響を与えていると考える。特に、現在の経済のグローバル化、インターネットの普及にともなうSNSの情報共有のスピードの速さは、これまで以上に華人社会のアイデンティティに影響を与えていると考える。その一方で、バイリンガル教育の推進は、シンガポールの華人社会が歴史的に保持している文化、伝統、行動様式、方言などにどのような変化を与えているのであろうか。本研究は、シンガポール華人が、英語中心の言語政策の推進によって、そのアイデンティティがどのように変容しているか、を考えるために、青年期の中華系シンガポール人を対象に、彼ら、彼女らの使用言語とアイデンティティに関する調査を実施した。その結果、青年期のシンガポール華人のアイデンティティは、華人としてのアイデンティティよりも、“ シンガポール人"として確立しつつあることが明らかになった。しかし、彼ら彼女らは、中華系の民族のアイデンティティがすべて消滅しているのではなく、中国語の方言の保持やスピークマンダリン・キャンペーンの推進に関心を示していることから、彼ら、彼女らのアイデンティティは、アンビバレントな状態であることが明らかになった。また、シンガポール華人のみならず、シンガポール社会で日常的に使用されているシングリッシュが、シンガポール華人のアイデンティティの1つとなる可能性も明らかになった。今後は、より深くシンガポール華人のアイデンティティを考えるために、シンガポール華人の世代間によるアイデンティティの変化、シンガポールの言語教育政策、および家庭内の中国の伝統、行事、宗教、価値観の継承などについて、ケーススタディをおこなう必要がある。
