This paper presents the results of a case study analysis, using the action research method, of social collaborative education at Kanto Gakuin University from 2014 to 2021, which the author implemented with the cooperation of the B-Group, the designated manager of Kanagawa Prefectural A-Park (as of March 2022). The structure of this paper is as follows. First, the social background will be examined that made it possible for universities to utilize the designated manager system of urban parks as a means of socially collaborative education, including the introduction of the designated manager system in Kanagawa Prefectural Park and the requirement for collaboration between the designated manager and the university. Next, it will be clarified how socially collaborative education using the designated manager system become possible at Kanagawa Prefectural B-Park. Then the two aspects of collaboration are described, not only at the individual level between university faculties and corporate staffs in charge of designated management, but also between respective organizations of the university and the cooperate. In the second half of this paper, practical outcomes and challenges of University-Social collaborative education utilizing the designated administrator system of urban parks; 14 graduation research projects (3 in 2015, 3 in 2016, 2 in 2017, 2 in 2018, 2 in 2019, 1 in 2020, and 1 in 2021) conducted in Kanagawa Prefectural B-Park and its surrounding environment. In conclusion University-Social collaborative education utilizing the designated administrator system of urban parks has potential to create a communication and activity platform where park users, administrative organizations, private companies, and educational/research organizations including universities can be engaged in community design together.
