大学共同利用機関法人「人間文化研究機構」で進められている研究資源共有化事業のひとつとして、幕末明治日本国勢地図の電子化を実施した。この地図には、明治時代の行政界である府県境や軍境である師管境のほか、国と郡の境界も示されている。国郡境は江戸時代以前の歴史や地理の研究に不可欠な史料であるが、全国規模で電子化されたものは存在していない。これらの境界データを電子化するとともに、国郡名のデータベース化を行い、併せて公開を図った。電子化の過程で生じた諸問題や今後の課題を含め、本業務の一連の作業について報告する。

We completed the boundary lines based on the Bakumatsu-Meiji era geographical map as one of the projects of Developing an Improved Research Resources Database promoted by National Institute for the Humanities. There are Fuken-boundary showed the administrative area, Sikan-boundary showed army district in Meiji era, and Kuni and Gun boundaries that were the division of former Edo era on this map. Before this project the digitalized boundary lines of Kuni and Gun had not been existed, although they are one of the most important historical materials. Accordingly we made up the electronic boundary lines and the database of information about Kuni and Gun, and open the data. We would report of this work referring to some problems which was happened in the process of digitalizing, and the theme in future.
