OSSであるKubernetesに焦点をあてたコミュニティの活発性と持続可能性の要因分析

近年のソフトウェア開発はプログラムコード量を減らし，短期間で高品質なアプリケーションなどの実現に OSS (Open Source Software) を利用する機会が増加し続けている．また，世界中の既存製品の９割に OSS が利用されているという試算もあり，注目されている．OSS プロジェクトには，コミュニティに参加する自律的なユーザーによる運用がなされ，明示的な指揮命令系統などはないとされる．OSS の活発性や持続可能性は，一部の活発な 15 人未満のユーザーによるところが多いとされる研究もあり，突発的に閉鎖される面も含有している．本稿では，CNCF プロジェクトでホストされている Kubernetes に着目し，活発性や持続可能性の要因分析を目的としている．そのために，世界中の企業が Kubernetes への移行を決定したユースケースの記事を収集してその記事内容の文脈から要素を抽出する方法と他のプロジェクトとの収益獲得戦略を比較する方法及び CNCF プロジェクトと Kubernetes プロジェクトの関係による特徴を調査する．この答えに対し，CNCF プロジェクトと Kubernetes プロジェクトとの密接な関係からエコシステムが形成されたことが活発性と持続可能性の要因であるという仮説を立てる．最後にこの仮説が，上記の方法によって正しいことを検証する．

In recent years, software development has continued to increase the use of Open Source Software (OSS) to reduce the amount of program code and to realize high-quality applications in a short period of time. OSS projects are managed by autonomous users who participate in the community, and there is no explicit chain of command. Some studies suggest that the activity and sustainability of OSS is largely due to a small number of active users (less than 15) and that OSS projects can be closed down unexpectedly. This paper focuses on Kubernetes, which is hosted by the CNCF project, with the aim of analyzing the factors that contribute to the activity and sustainability of the OSS. To this end, we collect articles on use cases in which companies around the world have decided to migrate to Kubernetes and extract elements from the context of the articles' content, compare revenue-generating strategies with other projects, and investigate the characteristics of the relationship between the CNCF project and the Kubernetes project. The answer to this question is: "How do the CNCF and Kubernetes projects relate? In response to these answers, we hypothesize that the formation of an ecosystem from the close relationship between the CNCF project and the Kubernetes project is a factor in the activity and sustainability of the project. Finally, we verify that this hypothesis is correct using the method described above.
