Description

Slope failures, which are frequent with heavy rain, bring sudden effluence of soils with a great deal of damage being caused in several places every year. Accordingly, this study uses labolatory experiments designed to show the influence of rainfall as a primary cause of slope failure. A model ground was constructed using decomposed granite soil, and measurements of differences in ground displacement were made with the gradients of slope using synthetic rainfall. From the results of these experiments,it was confirmed that if we convert the value of the earth strain to velocity of strain and calculate the elapsed time we can predict the time of slope failure. And it is further indicated that increasing water contents in the earth with continuing rainfall may trigger the slope-failure.
