抄録

In Japan, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people began to spend more time at home and the number of users of video streaming services such as YouTube increased dramatically. In addition to watching videos, the number of people producing and posting their own video content also increased, leading to an increase in the number of postings on YouTube by ordinary people who are not celebrities. In other words, the number of individual YouTubers is considered to have increased. In particular, Vlogs that record videos of personal daily life are becoming popular. Videos documenting the private lives of ordinary people became popular. Furthermore, from among them, self-deprecating contents that appeal to oneʼs unhappiness, such as “laid off,” “dispatched,” “low income,” “lonely,” “single,” “divorced,” and so on, began to attract attention. Under difficult social conditions in the wake of the Corona disaster, people may have wanted to reassure themselves by seeing othersʼ misfortunes and commiserating or sympathizing with them. Many of such individual YouTubers often stop their activities due to the difficulty of continuing content production. However, it has been beneficial that the video content contributions of these ordinary people have literally made visible the daily lives of diverse people living in an increasingly diverse society.
