A machining-assembly automatic production system is used to mass-produce machine elements. In this system, parts usually have machining errors, so a 'matching method' must be applied to produce high quality elements. However, the size mating in this method stagnates part flows, and a large buffer capacity is necessary to increase the production rate. Furthermore, in some combinations of part machining accuracy distributions, the maximum production rate, which is yielded in the system without applying the method, cannot be obtained. In this paper, we analyze the behavior of part flows in three types of systems with different buffers to rages using a Markov model, and present the effects of buffer capacity and combination of distributions on the production rate. Next, we propose a discriminant which clarifies the combination of distributions which can yield the maximum production rate.
