Abstract

In Japan, the shortage of schoolteachers becomes worse in recent years. In response to this trend, School of Global Studies at Tama University has established a junior high and high school English teacher training course since 2016, and a number of students who have successfully passed the teacher employment exams has increased since then. This article introduces ways of educating students in teacher-training course, including extracurricular classes. It also touches on issues faced in the pursuit of high-quality teacher training. In order to nurture successful English teachers in a university that does not specialize in education yet holds a teacher-training course, it is important to improve students’ English language competence and maintain their desire to become teachers.
