Abstract

After the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, telework has been recognized as a work style due to its advantages, and today, in what is called the new normal, hybrid work that takes advantage of face-to-face work and telework is becoming commonplace. As a result, workation, which involves working away from home, is attracting attention. In particular, local governments located far from major cities are hoping that this will lead to an increase in the number of people interacting with each other, and Japanese government is also supporting Workation, which has a digital garden city concept. On the other hand, workation is not progressing as expected. This is because workers think that workcations are something that workers can do freely at their own discretion without recognizing it as a company system, or that workcations are tours that are organized by the company the worker belongs to, or even that are organized by local governments. This is thought to be because the system and definition of workation are ambiguous. This paper analyzes and proposes “Personal Workation”, “Business Workation”, and “Community Workation”. Furthermore, it reveals that Generation Z is seeking workation and summarizes issues faced by local governments promoted by Community Workation.
