Abstract

The effect of fruit thinning on growth and yield of a non-ever bearing strawberry, 'Shindai SUS-1', was studied. It was conducted under the same growing conditions as the previous study conducted in 2022. In the growth surveys, the plant height and the plant length were significantly higher in the fruit thinning plot than in the non-fruit thinning plot. This was attributed to greater nutritional growth. In the yield surveys, there were no significant differences between the two test plots. No significant difference was observed in the number of defective fruits, and the sugar-acid ratio was similar between them. These results suggest that 'Shindai SUS-1' can produce good quality fruit even if fruit thinning is omitted, provided that fertilizer management is appropriate.
