  • Introduction of nursing care robots and views of the introduction in facilities covered by long-term care insurance.

抄録

We conducted a survey by mail in a total of 550 nursing facilities for the elderly covered by nursing care insurance in M prefecture to identify the status of introduction of nursing care robots and views of the introduction. As a result of analysis of responses from 126 facilities that answered to the survey (22.9%), nursing care robots were introduced and have been used at present in 41 facilities (32.5%). The most commonly used robot was monitoring robot that has been used in 27 facilities (65.9%). As views of the introduction of nursing care robots, following opinions were raised: Physical burdens on facility staff reduce with the introduction of the nursing care robots; costs of purchasing the robots are expensive; maintenance and upkeep of the robots involve costs; and there is a difficulty in receiving subsidies from local governments. In addition, there were situations that not all staff can necessarily operate nursing care robots easily, that knowledge is required, and that humans are better than the robots to provide nursing care, which indicated that a lack of knowledge is also a factor that hinders introduction and continuous use of nursing care robots in addition to cost-related factors. Based on these results, it was suggested that nursing care and welfare professionals need to have opportunities to master the features of the robots as well as how to operate the robots and learn successful cases of the introduction in their own facility or other facilities.
