Abstract

This paper applies the Melitz model to the cultural product market and examines several consequences of the model from the point of view of cultural diversity. In the Melitz model, fewer cultural products are produced worldwide in the open economy than in the closed economy. Furthermore, in the open economy, cultural products consumed all over the world become more the same. This paper pointed out that such consequences may have negative implications for cultural diversity in the global economy.
