Description

This article discusses the current pedagogical situation in which the appeal to emotions more often takes precedence over reason and understanding, even though these latter should be the focus of teaching. Although this situation poses many problems, learners risk losing motivation if content is simply discussed from a theoretical point of view, without concrete examples or easy-to-understand stories. What needs to be done to link emotionally aroused interest with rational thinking? In this article, we explore ways of linking emotion to reason, with reference to Descartes’ theory of body and mind and Alain’s contributions, which derive from Descartes’ theory.
