Description

This paper approaches the aspects of repetitive acts and what meanings are contained in them. It was prompted by the repetitive behavior of clients encountered in the author’s psychological clinical experience. First, after an overview of repetitive expressions in music, art, and weaving, repetitive acts and expressions in psychological clinical practice were examined with case studies. In music, the focus on notational devices (repeat marks) and the playback of performances (replays) revealed differences in the way performances are listened to and owned. In art, it was found that it begins with imitation, which is indeed a form of repetition, and through repetition, deviations and differences are created, leading to individuality. In weaving, the crossing of warp and weft threads meant life. In clinical psychotherapy, although the meaning of repetition varied slightly from one client to another, it was meant as an act of calming the mind, regulating oneself, and confirming one’s existence. From these findings, it can be said that human intervention and life are at the bottom of repetitive expressions.
