Separate renal function study by means of 99mTc-DMSA renoscintigraphy can be performed even for children, poor risk patients and iodine hypersensitivity cases. It does not require collection of urine or blood. Seventy normal persons received this examination, and 99mTc-DMSA uptake of the right kidney was 23.74 ± 3.62% whereas that of the left kidney was 23.99 ± 3.48%. The uptake of both kidneys was 47.67 ± 4.91 %. The uptake of normal solitary kidney was 47.67 ± 10.90%. The total renal plasma flow calculated from 1S1I-Hippuran renogram (Hirakawa's method) was found to be well correlated with total 99mTc-DMSA uptake (r=0.94). The correlation of total 99mTc-DMSA uptake with blood urea nitrogen was r=-0.70 (n=153), that with serum creatinine r= -0.66, that with 15 minutes value of PSP test r=O.70, and that with creatinine clearance r=0.99 (n= 13). Separate quantitative renal function study by 99mTc-DMSA renoscintigraphy was found to be of clinical use and the various diseases of the kidney are now under this examination.
