Abstract

The purpose of this study is to show the characteristics of the earliest memories(EMs) in eating disorders, using the interview of the EMs. Patients with eating disorder(N=23) were compared with non-clinical subjects(N=21) based on the index of EMs consisted of the aspect of content of EMs, the aspect of form of EMs, and the aspect of experience in recollection. The results showed that eating disorders expressed less their emotions in earliest memories than non-clinical subjects, and few number of them recollected their memories after talking about another memories. Furthermore, there were a few patients who could not remember anything, or two who recalled general memories and had difficulties to specify that. These results suggest that the people of eating disorders have the difficulties of expressioning or experiencing emotion because they control their emotion when they recollect EMs. Furthermore that results suggest that the earliest memories in eating disorders was separated by and not positioned as a part of the present self.
