This study aimed to examine how students would be motivated by practising basketball lessons that planned to place a circular alternation of "task-games" and "drill-games" in a teaching unit. The subjects of the study were 115 students in three classes of the 2nd year at a junior high school. The methods taken were questionnaires of 1) perceived physical competence scale developed by Okazawa et al (2001) and 2) formative assessment scale developed by Takahashi et al (2003). The results of analysis of 1) indicated that the lessons provided were effective for the students who showed lower scores of physical competency at the beginning of the lessons to be motivated with higher feeling of satisfaction. The results of analysis of 2) showed relatively high degree of satisfaction in the categories of "learning attitude" and "co-operation." On the other hand, it became a future task of the this study that teaching and learning contents and approaches for the students with higher scores of perceived physical competence need to be revised in order to make them feel improvement in their skills.
