Description

Acoustic resonance occurs in heat exchangers such as gas heater, boiler which contain tube bundles. This phenomenonis related to three factors: tube bundles, gas flow perpendicular to tube axes and acoustic space limited by duct walls. High level noise generated by the resonance has bothered the designers of heat exchangers for a long time and it is still under investigation to predict the occurrence of the resonance in the design stage. The countermeasures to suppressthe resonance are also under investigation. The present paper reviews the history of research for this phenomenon and mentions a practical method to suppress the resonant noise proposed by the authors. This method was applied to the actual boiler plants and it was confirmed that the proposed method was the effective countermeasure for this type of acoustic resonance.
