説明

A single-cylinder, direct-injected diesel engine was operated on a transesterified vegetable oil (TVO) derived from waste food-oil. A diesel engine performance and exhaust emissions such as NO_x, CO, HC and diesel particulate matter (DPM) were compared to JIS # 2 diesel oil. From this experiment, the following results were drawn : 1. Emissions of NO_x were up to 15% higher with TVO compared to diesel oil and CO emissions were 10 to 20% lower with TVO within the whole engine operating range. Emission of the unburned hydrocarbons are lower at all load condition with TVO when compared to diesel oil. 2. Soot emissions (Bosch smoke degree) were up to 50% lower compared to diesel oil in the whole engine operating range with TVO. 3. The fuel consumption with TVO was up to 30% higher compared to diesel oil. The performance test on road was carried out on a diesel vehicle, and the behavior of the vehicle was considered satisfactory. The results of the analysis indicate that the TVO is usable as alternative fuel for diesel engine and the TVO manufacture is available for a treatment process of the waste food-oil.
