Description

BIS -11 (Barratt Impulsiveness Scale); the standard impulsivity scale widely used in the world, is still not used in Japan. In this study, we aimed to make the Japanese version of the BIS-11. Our research is based on the translated version of the original BIS-11. Five factors were extracted as a result of the factor analysis. High reliability was found among these factors; the lack of careful plan/thought , motor impulsiveness , and the lack of attention/concentration . In order to check the construct validity, the correlation of these three factors with two of the factors that are opposite to the impulsivity; the self-control and the consideration of future consequences were examined. We found the correlation between each of the three factors, and the reformative self-control and the consideration of future consequences . Based on the above analysis of the reliability and the validity, we suggest that the Japanese version of BIS-11 can be used as a measure of impulsivity.
