Abstract

This paper discusses the underlying ability, which enhances interpretersʼ note-taking in consecutive interpreting (CI) in terms of the Cooperation Model proposed by Tomasello (2008). In previous studies, the issue of which ability helps consecutive interpreters facilitate note-taking in CI is still open. Through the scrutiny of professional interpretersʼ consecutive notes, it is clear that the notations are diagonally structured and reflect semantics of the original speech. Based on these notations, interpreters re-express the original speakerʼs intention with pragmatic heuristics.
