Matsumoto Kiyoharu worked as a commercial artist for the newspaper Asahi from 1937 to 1957, after which he devoted himself to the writing from his early forties and he adopted the pseudonym Matsumoto Seicho. His earliest work Saigo-Satsu was written when he was still working at The Asahi Shimbun in Kokura, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The reason why he began writing his first novel Saigo-Satsu was that he wanted to escape from reality. It won the third prize of a contest in 1950 and it was nominated for the Naoki literary award. In this paper, the author describes the social description from 1949 to 1951 and analyzes his first three novels, Saigo-Satsu, Kagero, and Kuruma-Yado. According to the analysis, he is said to have already established his own style when he began writing novels.
