Description

It is becoming a big social subject of discussion together with an increase of the obesity of males. Especially, at the college for physical education, there are a lot of sport players or athletes, whose body is assets for them. Some of them have the aim of becoming a teacher for athletes and health science in the future. The ideal BMI condition is their earnest hope, and it is important to clarify the real condition. The annual change of the woman student BMI for 38 years from 1967 to 2004 was compared with that of national nutrition survey. Low weight women were slightly increasing after 1991, but it stayed lower than 8%. However the range of BMI is widely distributed, and the ratio gradually increased. The number of students of higher BMI over 25 decreased after 1986. It was accounted for 10% or more recently and greatly exceeded compared with the national nutrition survey. A reason why such slender tendency is not accepted by our students is due to the correct recognition concerning the body figure and weight by the physical education in the college in addition to their attitude and idea concerning physical condition and meal. There are still a lot of students who have low weight or obesity in our college, and are increasing year after year and tend to obesity. It seemed that the follow-up survey and suitable education to these students is necessary in the future.
