Departmental Bulletin Paper

Araby, the third story in James Joyce's Dubliners, is, in spite of the seemingly simple narrative, as multi-layered as the other stories. This essay is an attempt to find out, integrate and explicate those several important motifs that are implanted obscurely in the text, thereby shedding further light on the nature of Joycean epiphany in some of the most significant and challenging passages of the story.
