Abstract

P(論文)

The author has been working in the field of mass communication research since the 1950s. Especially, after popular diffusion of televison, the author continued to investigate social impact of broadcasting media on the minds of the general public. The present monograph reflects and re-evaluates the author's own writings of the past three decades. The bibliography consists of 81 selected books, articles, and essays, and the author classified them into three parts, namely, theory, popular culture, and education. The bibliographical reflection itself reveals the contrast between "promises" and "performance" of broadcasting media in contemporary Japanese society and culture, and emphasizes the importance of educational use of broadcasting in the era of life-long learning in conjunction with the possibilities of the University of the Air and other university extension services now materializing in this country.
