The targets and categories of the home health care for bed-ridden elderly were analyzed in this study. The Questionnaire were sent to 759 home care agencies and 525 data were returned. Among 408 clients analysed, 45% had the history of CVD. Severeness of dementia increased with bed-ridden level of the clients. Amount of care time by nurses was longer at night and holidays when the level went higher. Targets of care differed depending on the bed-ridden level. In Rank A (semi bed-ridden), frequency of care on exercise, safety in the house were higher than rank B (bed-ridden) or Rank C (complete bed-ridden). In Rank B, rehabilitation was higher, and in Rank C, self-care and medical care were higher than the other groups. Category of "treatment and procedures" on rehabilitation were provided more frequently for Rank B Nutrition-excretion and respiration-circulation care were more for Rank C. Category of "surveillance" were provided less frequently for the clients than for family members when bed-ridden level was higher. Category of "health teaching, guidance, and counseling" was very few for the clients, and very frequently for family members.
