hepatic encephalopathy, amino?acid metabolic disorder, Fischer ratio, nutritional guidance In this study, we examined the efficacy of administering aminoleban EN to patients with chronic liver failure accompanied by hepatic encephalopathy, while both giving them guidance on the circumstances of meal intake and drug taking every day, and investigating these circumstances (1) Twelve cases were subjected to the evaluation of the drug's efficacy. The plasma amino?acid pattern and Fischer ratio improved. The results of the examination were as follows: efficacious: 23% (3/12); undeterminable: 54% (7/12); and inefficacious: 15% (2/12). (2) Thirteen cases were subjected to the evaluation of the drug's safety. One case showed symptoms of hypokalemia in the second week of administration, but the continuation of administration was possible, and the patient recovered from hypokalemia as a result of medication.

The above results demonstrate that the plasma amino?acid imbalance is eased as a result of aminoleban EN administration, without changing the contents of meals or the meal intake ratio.
