The Evaluation of the Group Study Method Using Peer Review in the Lesson of Programming

情報系の学部カリキュラムの中に，専門基礎としてプログラミングに関する科目がある．近年の大学生は，基礎学力や学習意欲の面で多様化している．そのためこの種の科目では，従来の一斉講義や演習授業の形態では，学習目標の達成が難しくなっている．したがって，学生の理解の程度に応じた個別指導や習熟度に応じた授業などが要請されているが，指導体制や教室設備などの問題も多く，現状の授業形態を大きく変えることが難しい．そこで，従来の一斉授業を維持し，一部にグループ学習を組み合わせる方式を提案する．数名の学生でグループを編成し，グループ内で相互に教えあい，自ら不足している知識を補強しながら課題に取り組む．特にフローチャートについては，学生同士による評価（peer review：ピア・レビュー）を取り入れた．グループ学習後の学生アンケートを因子分析した結果，以下の3因子が抽出できた．(1) お互いに教えあうことでプログラミングやフローチャートの理解が大幅に向上した（グループ学習の効果）．(2) 評価をすることによって，プログラミングの良い具体例を見ることができた（レビュアの利得）．(3) レビューの結果，フローチャートの誤りが発見できた（レビューの効果）．さらに，学生を成績の上位群と下位群に2分し，両群の因子得点のt検定から，グループ学習の効果とレビューの効果は，下位群に対して有意に高く，グループ学習の目的とする効果が確認できた．レビュアの利得に関しては，両群に有意な差がないことが確認できた．ピア・レビューをともなうグループ学習は，一斉授業の学習目標を達成させるために有用である．

In common classes of Information Science Department on University, some students felt very hard to learn a programming even in introduction level. This might be caused from the variety of knowledge and skills of each student. The less the student lacks the effective knowledge, the less he damps his morale. To lower these barriers, we developed a new group study method and measured its effectiveness in some classes. This method applied in conjunction with traditional classroom lessons. In addition, as a form of peer review, we asked students to work together to evaluate flowchrarts. Following the course, we conducted a factor analysis based on data collected form the students’ questionnaires. The following three factors were derived: (1) results of group study, (2) benefits to peer reviewers, (3) effectiveness of the peer review process. To further clarify the effects of group study, learners were separated into a high-achievement group and a low-achievement group, upon which we performed a t-test of average factor scores. In conclusion, the results of this study demonstrate that group study methods, when combined with a peer review process, helped learners with varying degrees of basic knowledge and motivation to achieve the course goals within a traditional classroom setting.
